A Better Way College Advising

Don't select a college based on it's ranking - choose the college that's right for you.

Finding the Colleges That Fit Your Future

There are over 3,000 four-year colleges in the United States.

How do you navigate the landscape of education to find the one - or the ones - that will be right for you or your child?

Looking through ranking lists isn't a bad way to get started, but a "top ranking" doesn't always mean it's the right fit.  Fit is what matters most - academic fit, social fit, and the fit for life beyond college.

Getting into college can feel overwhelming for students, no matter their academic achievements. There are schools that are right for every student, schools that will fulfill dreams and goals. Schools for students that were high achievers in high school and schools that can look beyond grades.

I'm committed to finding those schools that meet your needs - those schools that are right for you.

College Selection

Finding the right colleges to apply to is vital.  The key, however, is starting with the student's academic interests and social needs and combining those with geographic limitations, if any. Choosing schools that match the student's needs and will engage them academically is key. Junior year in high school is a good time to start seriously thinking about colleges.  I will put together the right selection of colleges that make sense.

Application Assistance

Every word that is sent to a college is important. Your application is reviewed by the regional representative in the Admissions Office, and making the right impression matters. Your list of extracurricular activities, your recommendations, and your personal statements are all important, just as your grades and SAT or ACT scores are.  I will help ensure that the application presented is holistic in nature and shows the student's best assets.

High School Curriculum

Colleges look at the rigor of the courses taken during high school. Colleges also look at your "curriculum" outside of school - what have you spent your time on aside from classes? Do you volunteer? Do you have a job? Colleges look at all aspects of the applicant. It is never too early to think about taking the right classes! I can help guide class selection, and while I can't find your passions, I can help keep you on the right path.

Marjorie Licht

After 15 years in the corporate world - on Wall Street, in consulting, and then onto manufacturing - I landed in the  tougher world of motherhood and organizing PTA's, yearbooks, volunteer fundraising, and eventually found my passion in education.  I sat on School Advisory Councils for 9 years, learning the intricacies of curriculum, honors and AP track availability, and the importance of good guidance.  I currently sit on the Columbia University ARC Committee, where I conduct alumni interviews for incoming students. I've guided families towards better high school class choices, better college selections, and better application preparation.
